Last night Luca was rummaging in a kitchen drawer and pulled out a bag of skewers. “What are these things?” was the inevitable question. Sometimes the best way of explaining something is by doing, so we decided to make some impromptu fruit skewers. This little project ended up keeping him happily occupied until dinner was ready and it was something fun and healthy to eat for dessert. He had a good time alternating the different fruits (and doing some tasting in between) and practicing his skewer technique. Maybe we’ll get him making some Turkish kabobs before long! As for the eating part of things, we made things a little more interesting by dipping our skewers in vanilla yogurt made extra yummy with some sprinkles. I mean, who doesn’t love food on a stick?
It also got me thinking about firing up the BBQ and doing grilled pineapple, mangoes or peaches. Maybe with some mint and honey yogurt, a zabaglione or some salted caramel ice cream from Bi-Rite Creamery? Possibilities, possibilities. We’ll be coming back to this one for sure.
