Summer Discovery: Transit Cafe in the Presidio

The Presidio is a wonderful playground for children and adults alike, and if you are tramping around, the recently opened Transit Cafe at the Presidio Transit Center is a welcome rest and snack spot.  This used to be the location of a fancy French bistro-type restaurant, which shut down recently.

The Transit Cafe is one of our summer discoveries and we cannot stop returning for a quick breakfast or post-camp snack.  On a clear, sunny day the view is lovely and you feel like you are on a vacation in your own city. The menu is simple with breakfast pastries, salads and sandwiches.  They will soon be adding pizza, which will be made in their wood burning oven.  The best part is that they also serve alcohol (wine and beer) for the grown-ups and later in the afternoon a cheese and salumi plate as well.  Our little ones never met a cheese/salumi plate that they did not like. 🙂

Right outside, since the cafe is at the Transit Center, there is a bus stop where two Presidio run buses stop.  One takes Presidio residents, employees and office workers downtown and the other is an around-the-Presidio mini-bus which the little ones will absolutely love riding.  There is even a stop at the Golden Gate Bridge, should you want to get off.  A neat way to explore the Presidio and get your bearings and particularly handy, if your little ones are tired and do not want to walk anymore.

A fantastic place to relax and unwind after exploring the Presidio.  Or grab some food for a picnic and head out and create your own Presidio adventure.
