This is the last of our international sandwich ideas for picnics. Now it is up to you to come of with your own variation of a sandwich from around the world. Work with your kids and make a sandwich that represents a part of the world that you are from or a favorite cuisine. I am thinking a tandoori chicken, mixed salad (tomato, onion and cucumber like a kacumber) with a thick yogurty spread with spices with pita as our version. The possibilities are endless…..do share yours with us! We love new ideas!
Spain: Sweet Savory Jamon y Queso
Traditional Spanish bocadillos are served on a baguette-style roll with simple fillings that usually include meat, cheese or perhaps an omelette, but not much in the way of condiments. Adding a thin swipe of jam to this classic bocadillo combination of Serano ham and Manchego cheese, gives this sandwich an addictive sweet-savory flavor kids will love.
- 1 demi-baguette sliced in half (or 2 slices of your favorite bread)
- 2 slices Spanish serano ham
- Several slices of Manchego cheese
- 1 teaspoon quince jam (or substitute your favorite jam or fruit preserve)
Spread jam on half of the baguette, then layer ham and cheese, and then top with remaining half of baguette. Enjoy.
